Afternoon Tea Blanket KAL Part 4

By Amy Sosbe 5 years ago

Welcome to the fourth instalment of our wonderful Afternoon Tea Blanket Knit Along (KAL). We have been really enjoying seeing all your blankets take shape, and with only 2 more parts to go the final look and feel of the blanket is starting to come together! Very exciting! Every week we’ve been gathering together your photographs of the current weeks square. Here's a round-up of photographs of your fellow knitter’s progress from the last week.

Our fourth instalment of our KAL is for the lovely Gingham Motif, we’ve chosen a pretty soft green, a contrasting darker green along with a cream shade to make the Gingham pattern, reminding us of vintage checked tablecloths. The pattern creates a beautiful thick and textured effect, adding to the lovely design.

This week you will need 1x Lincoln (1834), 1x Cypress (1824) and 1x Cream (1005), as well as 1 pair of 4mm (No. 8) knitting needles and a knitter’s needle for sewing up.

This pattern introduces slipping stitches, which simply means to pass stitches from your left needle to your right needle without working into them. There are more rows and stitches to this square because the pattern uses these slipped stitches. This technique cleverly replicates gingham fabric and creates a tactile finished square.

You will be using 3 different shades of yarn, but unlike previous weeks, do not cut the yarn when changing to a new shade. Instead leave yarn at side of work ready to use when needed next and twist yarns at end of every row.

Take care not to pull yarn floats too tightly when working the 'slipped stitch' pattern, as this will affect your tension. You will also be slipping all stitches purlwise and casting off purlwise.

We’ve photographed the back of the finished piece so you can see how you will be crossing the shades over. Please don’t worry, it looks much more complicated than it is!

And here is the finished front!

Please remember not to block your work until the KAL has finished. We will go through the blocking instructions in the final part.

If you’re new to the KAL you can get the handy colour pack for the Afternoon Tea Blanket for only £15.99. You can also read our previous blog posts and download each part of the pattern by following the links below:
