Afternoon Tea Blanket KAL Part 2

Print
By Amy Sosbe 5 years ago

Welcome to the second instalment of our wonderful Afternoon Tea Blanket Knit Along (KAL). We loved seeing all your photos of the Polka-dot Motif from week 1, thank you all for sharing your progress! You can see a round-up of some of the motifs in progress here:

A quick note on blocking: Before we get started, you'll begin to notice there are variations in the sizes of the motifs for this mystery knit along. Please save your motifs to block in one batch at the end. This is quite normal for a project of this style. Motifs are blocked together to bring them all to the same size ready to lay out and join.

If you’re new to the KAL, get your handy colour pack for only £15.99.

For an introduction to the KAL, which gives you a sneak peek into what’s to come, take a look at our first blog post. You can also read more about the previous part and download part 1 here >>

Remember, we have our lovely Facebook group ‘Knit Along with The Knitting Network’, which you can join to share your progress and help each other along. Don't forget to use hashtag #afternoonteakal so we can see all your lovely photos!

Our second instalment of the knit along is for the scrumptious looking Stripe Motif, knitted in cream, pale pink and pale yellow to look like a delicious slice of the tea-time-classic Angel cake! This is a straight-forward design, simply changing from one colour to the next as the pattern guides you, cutting the yarn when you’ve finished with a shade and then joining on the next shade needed.

This week you will need 1x Cream (1005), 1x Blush (1833) and 1x Lemon (1020), as well as 1 pair of 3.75mm (No. 9) knitting needles and a knitter’s needle for sewing up.

Very similar to the colour-work technique of last week, you will be simply joining a new shade where needed and then cutting it when you have finished with it, leaving a length of yarn at the start and end of each block of colour, that can be sewn in at the end. The only difference to last week is you’ll be using 3 colours instead of 2 and the number of rows you will use it shade for is different, but the principles are the same.

We have photographed the finished front and back of our Stripe Motif below (before blocking and sewing in ends) so you can see the finished result!

Please remember not to block your work until the KAL has finished. We will go through the blocking instructions in the final part.

Happy knitting everyone!
