Presenting the Official Scheepjes CAL 2020 d’Histoire Naturelle, designed by Christina Hadderingh of A Spoonful of Yarn. The Blanket d’Histoire Naturelle CAL will be hosted in the Official Scheepjes Facebook Group.
The Scheepjes CAL and Read-A-Long for 2020 is finally here. As participants join in from all over the world, the 2020 CAL will whisk you all away to Paris, France, as you crochet your way through the many galleries within the astounding Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (Museum of Natural History). The inspiration behind this incredible design is Anthony Doerr’s best-selling novel “All the Light We Cannot See”.
The Blanket d’Histoire Naturelle is available in four colourways in two different types of yarn, each inspired by the magical colours and textures to be found inside four departments of the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris: Herbarium, Mineralogy, Conchology and Entomology.
“During this CAL and Read-A-Long I plan to take you on a journey through the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle of Paris, France. To start, we will wander through the Jardin des Plantes, complete with its luscious herbs, medicinal plants and enormous hedges, followed by a peek inside the many cabinets and drawers filled with butterflies and bees lining the walls of the Galerie d’Entomologie. Afterwards, we’ll visit the Galerie de Botanique to observe old herbarium sheets covered in the most fascinating scientific drawings of plants and flowers, before moving on to gaze at the many dazzling gems and crystals to be found in the Galerie de Minéralogie et Géologie. To end our journey, we’ll marvel at the grand procession of animals on display in the Grande Galerie de l’Evolution and walk past glass cases full of ancient fossils in the Galerie de Paleontologie.” – Christina Hadderingh

The design of the Blanket d’Histoire Naturelle was directly inspired by the evocative descriptions of the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle found inside author Anthony Doerr’s award-winning novel All the Light We Cannot See. So, Scheepjes will be combining their annual Crochet-A-Long with a Read-A-Long of the book that made it happen! Whether you read the book or choose to listen to the audio book, this will add an extra dimension to this CAL. If you are not an avid reader, no problem, you can stay and simply Crochet-A-Long!
Scheepjes and Christina are hosting weekly Book Club Sunday meet-ups via the Official Scheepjes Facebook Groups, where they will be sharing unique interview footage from none other than the author of All the Light We Cannot See himself, Anthony Doerr. Each week of this CAL, a video will be released containing short interviews that engages with the Book Club Sunday reading material for the week to come.
