Prince Louis Jumpers To Knit

By Amy Last 5 years ago

Prince Louis has been pictured wearing two knitted jumpers in official photographs released by Kensington Palace. The puppy sweater is by childrenswear brand, Trotters, and it is not yet known where the burgundy jumper is from but it looks like a hand knit.

The photos were released late on 22 April 2019 by Kensington Palace on Instagram to mark the youngster's first birthday. They were taken by the Duchess of Cambridge at the family's Norfolk home earlier in the month.

‘The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to share these new photographs of Prince Louis ahead of his first birthday tomorrow’ the caption read.

The puppy sweater sold out within hours. If you haven’t been lucky enough to get your hands on the garments, you'll be thrilled to hear that we've found a selection of similar patterns so you can knit your own versions.

Just like the original burgundy sweater, this Sirdar pattern features neat rib cuffs and waist and is made in a deep cherry red shade of Sirdar Snuggly 4 Ply.

Ignore the soldier intarsia and this sweater is a near perfect replica with three buttons on the shoulder and ribbed edgings. Knit in King Cole Merino Blend 4 Ply in shade Cranberry for best results.

Button-up shoulder detail sets this jumper apart as well as making it easy to dress little ones. We recommend knitting it in Hayfield Bonus Aran with Wool in shade Burgundy to match the jumper worn by Prince Louis.

Knit this Stylecraft sweater in one colour to replicate the neat stitch definition of the young Royal’s jumper. Button-up shoulders finish it off perfectly. We would knit in Stylecraft Bellissima shade Rio Red for a great colour match.

To knit the puppy intarsia jumper worn by Prince Louis, why not add your own motif to this plain jumper from Peter Pan?

Or you can adapt this Robin sweater from Woman’s Weekly to add your four-legged friend and delight little ones.

If dinosaurs are more their thing, this popular pattern by Peter Pan is a must-have.

Fifth-in-line to the throne, Prince Louis was born at 11.01am on St George's Day in 2018. Soon the royal family will grow again as the first baby of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is expected to arrive any day now. Find our collection of royal baby knitting patterns here.
