Baby Shawl Patterns

With the birth of the newest member of the Royal family, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, knitted shawl patterns have been flying off the shelves nationwide!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child at 05:26am on 06 May 2019, weighing 7lb 3oz. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is seventh in line to the throne and is the Queen's eighth great-grandchild!

Knitted shawls are one of the most special things to make for a new addition to the family, being treasured and passed down the generations. In our list of our favourites, we’ve included some traditional designs and some more modern takes on the classic shawl.

This Blanket and Shawl in Sirdar Snuggly DK has a simple and beautiful chevron lace design, with the zig-zag edge, it has a touch of modern style.

For something original and a bit different, this pattern knitted in 2ply and 3ply includes 2 designs. Choose from either the heart shawl or the paisley shawl.

This round shawl by Peter Pan is a traditional design, but with the main part of the shawl knitted in garter stitch, it is perfect for a less challenging project.

These 3 shawls by Sirdar are also a slightly less challenging make. Knitted in four sections, they are then sewn together before knitting the edging. This method also creates a really pretty effect.

We love the scallop stitch on this pretty knitted shawl by Peter Pan.

We wanted to include some crochet shawls on our list, and this pattern knitted in Peter Pan 4 ply is simple, but with the delicate lace border is a beautiful shawl. Also included in this pattern are the matching shoes, bonnet and cardigan.

Another crocheted shawl, this crochet square design creates a ‘granny square’ effect, whilst still incorporating the lacey feel of a traditional shawl.

Finishing our selection with a third crochet pattern, that includes 4 modern takes on a shawl. Choose from the wave pattern blanket, dotty blanket, block pattern blanket and diagonal pattern shawl.
