We’ve been campaigning since 1966, and we won’t stop until there’s a safe, secure, affordable home for everyone. Shelter was formed by Bruce Kenrick (founder chairman) who worked with Des Wilson, a political activist who became Shelter’s first Director, in response to the country’s massive housing crisis. From 1966 to this day, Shelter believes home is everything and exists to defend the right to a safe home. Our strategic aim is to bring an end to the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and communities. We deliver our strategy by campaigning tirelessly to fight the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and society, providing free, expert housing advice to people no matter their situation, and through fundraising (including in our shops).
