Cosy Winter Projects

Get snuggled up with some of our loveliest makes this winter. The world outside is hibernating, little dormice are wrapped up in their beds of leaves, hedgehogs are curled into tight spikey balls in a warm corner of the garden, bats are roosting somewhere dark and quiet and dormant butterflies sit in an undisturbed nook of a shed.

January and February come with long nights and spring seems far away. It’s a sleepy sort of time, when our energy is low and the buzz of Christmas is behind us. With this is mind, we’ve chosen some easy makes that you can gently work away on, some that will bring a bit of brightness and warmth to your home and wardrobe and some that you can take your time over at your own pace.

We hope you enjoy our collection of mindful makes and they help while away these cosy winter days.

This gorgeous scarf and mitten pattern definitely falls into the category of ‘bringing a bit of brightness’. Knitted in the Super Chunky Sirdar Adventure, it's super cosy!

Socks are such a lovely project. They make for a satisfying make, with a practical item at the end of it. These socks in West Yorkshire Spinners Illustrious yarn are a beautiful example. With pretty cable detail, they’re lovely to show off worn over a pair of tights, or to make any outfit feel that little bit special.

A great selection of different cushion designs are included in this pattern. Have fun with the different stitches and enjoy your project growing nice and quick in the Aran yarn.

A perfect ‘pick-up-and-put-down’ project, this colourful and retro style blanket is knitted in strips that are then sewn together, so you can make a stripe at a time. It’s also knitted in garter stitch so is a real ‘switch- off’ project, perfect accompanied by something good on the television!

This sweet Fair Isle design hot water bottle cover is great if you’ve not knitted a fair isle pattern before, or, if you have, would make for an easy, relaxing project.

A perfect practical project, these crochet baskets are perfect for storing all things from yarn to toiletries. Useful projects always seem extra satisfying and these are so quick and easy giving your mind time to wonder off to sunny days and happy thoughts.

Another quick and lovely project, these knitted plant pot covers could also be used as storage pots.

These cute little birds would look lovely on a seasonal tree, or, as a decorative hanging decoration, or, even made into a babies’ mobile. The Sirdar Happy Cotton yarn we’ve chosen comes in an array of bright colours, all with fun shade names.

We thought we’d save the best until last! Our new Temperature Blankets really connect you to the seasons and the world outside, which is very much needed this time of year. The idea is to knit or crochet a line a day, letting the temperature outside determine the shade you use. We have both a knitting and crochet kit available, which both include all the lovely Emu Classic DK yarn you need and a printed copy of the pattern. This simple project is ideal for beginners or experienced knitters, ready for a mindful make. The outcome is a beautiful striped blanket that gives a visual guide to the temperatures throughout the year and lets you enjoy 365 days of gentle knitting or crochet.
