The third square for our Christmas Snow And Ice CAL is a classic Granny Square! You can't beat it when it comes to crocheting a blanket and we are giving you the perfect pattern for it.

For this CAL you will need Sirdar Cotton DK (100% cotton).

2 x 100g (212m) balls of Sirdar Cotton DK (100% cotton) in each of Mill White (501), Vanilla (502), Light Taupe (504) and Grey Dawn (520). You will also need a 3mm hook.

With 3.00 mm hook, make slip knot on hook.

Pull loop tight on hook.

Yarn over hook and pull through loop.

This creates a chain stitch (ch). 

Repeat three times more making 4ch.

To join with a slip stitch (slst), insert hook through the first ch.

Take yarn over hook, pull through both loops on hook to make a ring.

This is the ring that you'll be working into.

Now begin your first round by working 3ch.

Then work 2 treble (2tr) in to ring. To make tr, take yarn over hook, insert hook into ring.

Pull through, yarn over hook and pull through two stitches on hook.

Yarn over hook.

Pull through remaining last two stitches on hook.

Work 3tr into ring, three times, working 2ch in between each set.

Work 1ch, 1 half treble (htr) in third of 3ch.

To do a htr, take yarn over hook.

Insert hook into st.

Yarn over hook and pull through.

Yarn over hook and pull through all three sts on hook.

Second round:

Work 3ch.

Then work 2tr around post of htr from previous round.

Work 1ch, then 3tr.

Then work 3tr all in next 3-chsp.

Repeat round referring to the pattern

Third round:

Work 3ch.

Then 2tr around post of htr from previous round.

Work 1ch, 3tr in next 1-chsp.

Work 1ch, then 3tr, 3ch and 3tr all in next 3-chsp.

Complete round referring to pattern.

Fourth round:

Work 3ch.

Then work 2tr around post of htr from previous round.

Work 1ch, 3tr in each 1 chain space (chsp) two times.

Work 1ch, work 3tr, 3ch and 3tr all in next 3-chsp

Work 1ch, 3tr in each 1-chsp.

Repeat round referring to pattern.

Fifth round:

Work 3ch.

Then work 2tr around post of htr from previous round.

Repeat round referring to pattern and use previous photos as a guide if needed.

Sixth round:

Work 1ch.

The work 2 double crochet (dc) around post of htr from previous round.

To dc, insert hook into st.

Pull through, yarn over hook.

Pull through two sts on hook.

Work 1dc in each of the next 3 sts

Then 1dc in each 1-chsp.

Then work 1dc in each of next 3 sts four times.
