The fourth instalment of our Christmas CAL is the Crossed Cluster Square. Made from a series of treble and cluster stitches, these squares are a lovely addition to your blanket! 

For this CAL you will need Sirdar Cotton DK (100% cotton).

2 x 100g (212m) balls of Sirdar Cotton DK (100% cotton) in each of Mill White (501), Vanilla (502), Light Taupe (504) and Grey Dawn (520). You will also need a 3mm hook.

Now let's have a look at the steps.

With 3.00 mm hook, make slip knot.

Pull loop tight on hook.

Yarn over hook and pull through loop.

This creates a chain stitch (ch).

Repeat five times more making 6ch.

To join with a slip stitch (slst), insert hook through the first ch.

Take yarn over hook, pull through all loops on hook to make a ring.

First round:

Work 2ch.

Work 2 treble cluster (2trcl) in ring.

To 2trcl, yarn over hook, insert into ring.

Pull through, yarn over hook.

Pull through two stitches on hook.

Yarn over hook, insert into ring.

Pull through, yarn over hook.

Pull through two stitches on hook.

Yarn over hook and pull through all three stitches on hook.

Work 4ch.

Work 3 treble cluster (3trcl) into ring.

To 3trcl, yarn over hook, insert into ring.

To treble (tr), yarn over hook.

Insert hook into stitch.
