Step by step crochet: Double treble illustrations
By Freddie Patmore 7 years ago

A double treble crochet stitch (dtr) in a US pattern would be the equivalent of a triple treble (trtr) in a UK crochet pattern.

This article shows you how to work a double treble crochet stitch in the UK way. Always check whether your pattern is using US or UK abbreviations.

All Woman's Weekly and The Knitting Network patterns use UK abbreviations. Different treble stitches vary in height so using the wrong version will give you a wrong-size result.

To continue making double treble stitches, begin as with stage 1 - wrap the yarn around the hook twice and insert the hook in the next chain or stitch (do not skip stitches unless stated otherwise in the pattern), then repeat steps 2-5.
Double trebles are tall, open stitches which lend themselves perfectly to creating openwork lace patterns, just like the designer has done with our Girl's Dress Crochet pattern. As each dtr creates a tall, narrow column of stitching, large pieces of fabric can be created quickly - especially with lacy all-over stitches.double treble fan stitch girls dress crochet pattern Bare in mind that these tall stitches with multiple yarn wraps will be far looser in tension than smaller stitches like double crochet (dc).
It may therefore be necessary to switch hook sizes as you work to accommodate the difference. Your pattern will always instruct you to do so if it's required.
