The Jellydrops Blanket

To celebrate the arrival of go-to DK yarn, we’ve teamed up with some of our favourite crafters and bloggers to create some fun new patterns that are all unique in style.

go-to DK is a new yarn range stocked exclusively here at The Knitting Network. It’s a great value, premium acrylic yarn that’s perfect for all projects. Made in Britain with a recycled paper ball band, and available at the low price of just £1.69 for a 100g ball, it’s set to become a staple for every yarn stash.

We’ve already revealed the beautiful Late Summer Sunsets Blanket by Eleonora Tully, who created the loveliest blanket inspired by the sea. You can buy the Late Summer Sunsets Blanket colour pack for only £15.99. You can also read all about the inspiration behind the blanket and more about Eleonora on our special blog post.

The second go-to-inspired project we’re revealing is the Jellydrops Blanket, designed for us exclusively by Shah Lagraa-Gomes, from the beautiful Instagram account @Yarnbae.

This fun and unique crochet blanket uses zingy pastel brights, set off perfectly against the cream background of the honeycomb stitch. The different sized pompoms in matching bright sherbet shades mixed with the jewel-like effect of the honeycomb stitch, makes us think of sweet shops, with jars of brightly coloured boiled sweets, jelly sweets and all things delicious! It's an intermediate make with helpful picture tutorials in the pattern booklet to guide ambitious beginners through the process.

The Jellydrops Blanket Colour Pack pack contains all nine balls of the go-to DK yarn you need, plus a copy of the eight page pattern booklet.

You'll also receive a set of Pony Pom Pom Makers and one of our 'I Love Crochet' stickers, all for only £19.99.

We had a mini interview with Shah, which you can read below, where we asked her a little bit about her creative process.

Where is your favourite place to craft?

My little studio! I love that all my tools and supplies are within a few metres of each other - the creative process just flows and I get so much done. Even i'm just jotting down ideas, having all that colour & texture in front of me is a constant source of inspiration!

What do you like to do when not crafting?

I'm never not crafting - if i'm not physically making something with my hands, i'm making something in my mind! But to answer your question, i'm a big fan of all things 70's and I love spending my free time charity shop hopping for retro homewares. I often find knit or crochet related items too, which is pretty cool!

What inspired the design of the blanket?

I wanted to challenge myself so I set a poll on my Instagram (@yarnbae) with some inspo shots - one was a pastel rainbow snake, the other was 60's mod fabric. I asked my followers to vote & the snake won. My next step was figuring out how on earth I was going to make this happen, so I did some research and came across a few variations of this pretty tile stitch that looks just like snake scales - it was perfect for what I had in mind. I started with a cushion cover before moving on to the blanket & I love the outcome, it has such a great texture to it!

What did you like most about go-to DK yarn?

The colours - there are some really yummy shades that I've not found elsewhere, especially the Orange Sherbet. I was also impressed by the yardage and softness despite it being a value yarn. I'm very particular about my acrylics, but this one is stash worthy!

Shah’s Jellydrops Blanket is simply lovely and takes us right back to our childhood! We can’t wait to reveal even more projects with go-to DK soon!

You can buy the Jellydrops Blanket colour pack for only £19.99 and if you’d like to buy go-to DK separately, you can find all the different shades here.
