Stitch Library Doll’s Blanket - Knitted Stitches 3 & 4

Print
By Amy Sosbe 4 years ago

Welcome to the second part of the Knitting Stitch Library! We’ve got another 2 fantastic knitted stitches for you to add to your Doll’s Blanket.

In this second part the stitches are slightly more detailed and include the Basket Weave Stitch and the Ribbed Cable Stitch. The Basket Weave Stitch is considered a ‘Texture’ stitch or ‘Fabric’ stitch and the Ribbed Cable Stitch a ‘Rib’ stitch. Rib stitches are characterised by vertical ridges and have great elasticity in the horizontal direction. Due to their elasticity, rib stitches are often used at garment edges.

We’ve written out the patterns for the Basket Weave Stitch and the Ribbed Cable Stitch below for you to knit a 13 x 13cm (approx.) square of each. They’ll be 6 different knitted stitches all together and you will need 12 squares in total for the Dolls’ Blanket, so you can choose to knit as many of each design as you’d like. We've used Go-To DK for our blankets.

You can find the 2 stitches from part one here.

Basket Weave Stitch

The Basket Weave Stitch creates a detailed illusion of a woven knit but is made up of chequerboard squares of stocking stitch and reverse stocking stitches. It’s a great stitch for scarves, hats and blankets and has a wonderful stretch and bounce.

Pattern rep. is in units of 10 sts and 12 rows

Using 3.75mm knitted needles, cast on 30 sts

Rows 1 to 6: *K 5, P 5* to end

Rows 7 to 12: *P 5, K 5* to end

Repeat until knitting measures the same as the width. Cast off.

Ribbed Cables Stitch

Not a true cable rib but similar in appearance, this mock cable stitch is a very simple and easy and gives a cable stitch look without the need for a cable needle.

Pattern rep. is in units of 5 sts plus 4 and 4 rows

Using 3.75mm knitted needles, cast on 24 sts

Row 1: *P 4, K into the front, back, and front again of next st*, P 4

Rows 2: K 4, *P 3, K 4* to end

Rows 3: *P 4, K 3 tog*, P 4

Rows 4: K 4, *P 1, K 4* to end

Repeat until knitting measures the same as the width. Cast off.

Next time we’ll be showing you how to knit a Lace Stitch and a Bobble Stitch! To share your photos you can visit our Knit Along and Crochet Along groups on Facebook.
