Stitch Library Doll’s Blanket - Knitted Stitches 5 & 6

By Amy Sosbe 4 years ago

Welcome to the third part of the Knitting Stitch Library! This time we’ve got 2 very special stitches for you to add to your Doll’s Blanket.

This time we're introducing a lace stitch and a bobble stitch. The lace stitch we’ve chosen is the Butterfly Lace Stitch. A lace stitch is basically any pattern with openwork. Its forms are numerous, ranging from eyelet bands on a stocking stitch background, to the most delicate lace and net. The structure also varies and includes some of the most complex of patterns. For the bobble stitch we’ve chosen the fun and textural Popcorn Stitch.

We’ve written out the patterns for the Butterfly Lace Stitch and the Popcorn Stitch below for you to knit a 13 x 13cm (approx.) square of each. You will need 12 squares in total for the Dolls’ Blanket and we’ve now given you all 6 different knitted stitches, so you can choose to knit as many of each design as you’d like. We've used Go-To DK for our blankets.

You can find the 2 stitches from part two here and the 2 stitches from part one here.

Butterfly Lace Stitch

A very pretty and easy lace stitch with an effective result, perfect for children’s sweaters and baby blankets. Like most lace patterns, the detail, in this case the butterfly, is created using the technique of a yarn round needle increase, making a hole.

Pattern rep. is in units of 10 sts plus 5 and 12 rows

Using 3.75mm knitted needles, cast on 29 stitches.

Rows 1 and 3: K2, *K2tog, yrn, K1, yrn, K1, psso, K5* to end

Repeat until knitting measures the same as the width. Cast off.

Popcorn Stitch

A medium sized knot made by knitting several times into the same stitch, then slipping all extra loops over the first one. Knot size can be varied by working fewer or more times into a stitch. To keep popcorn in place, knit stitch after popcorn firmly, after pushing popcorn to front of work.

Pattern rep. is in units of 6 sts plus 3 and 8 rows

Using 3.75mm knitted needles, cast on 27 sts

Rows 1 and 5: knit

Row 2 and alt rows: purl

Rows 3: K 1, *make popcorn in next st [(K front and back of loop) twice, then slip the 2nd, 3rd and 4th sts over the 1st], K 5*, make popcorn, K 1

Rows 7: K 4, *make popcorn, K 5*, make popcorn, K 4

Repeat until knitting measures the same as the width. Cast off.
