Stitch Library Doll’s Blanket - Crocheted Stitches 3 & 4

By Amy Sosbe 4 years ago

Welcome to the second part of the Crochet Stitch Library! This time we’re focusing on Shell Stitches and have chosen the Arcade Stitch and the Bushy Stitch.

A shell is a group of stitches, usually 3 or more, worked into one stitch or chain space. Stitches come together in close formation at the base and spread out at the top, so they resemble seashells or fans. The width and depth of a shell depends on the number of stitches that are in it and the size in which they are worked. The shell is a pretty stitch that has a lacy appearance even in a solid pattern and is suitable and attractive most of all for blankets.

We’ve written out the patterns for the Arcade Stitch and the Bushy Stitch below for you to crochet a 13 x 13cm (approx.) square of each. You will need 12 squares in total and there will be 6 different stitches all together, so you can choose to crochet as many of each design as you’d like. We've used Go-To DK for our blankets.

You can find the patterns for the first 2 crochet stitches here.

These shells are a combination of double and treble crochet stitches and are asymmetrical in form. It makes for a pretty and quick pattern that works great for afghans and blankets.
