Stitch Library Doll’s Blanket - Crocheted Stitches 5 & 6

By Amy Sosbe 4 years ago

Welcome to the third part of the Crochet Stitch Library! This time we’re looking at Cluster Stitches and have chosen a soft and a bulky cluster - the Large Cluster Stitch and the Bobble Stitch.

A Cluster is a group of three or more stitches worked into one stitch or chain space, drawn together at the top with one loop. Depending on how many stitches are in a group, results may be relatively flat, or extremely chunky. Whatever the type, however, all clusters stand out from a flat surface providing extra texture and dimension in the finished piece. In an all-over pattern the clusters make a warm, some-what bulky fabric and used individually or as one row in a plain crochet pattern it is an attractive accent or trimming.

We’ve written out the patterns for the Large Cluster Stitch and the Bobble Stitch below for you to crochet a 13 x 13cm (approx.) square of each. You will now have all 6 of the crochet stitches you can use o make your Doll’s Blanket. You need 12 squares in total and you can choose to crochet as many of each design as you’d like. We've used Go-To DK for our blankets.

You can find the patterns for part two's crochet stitches here and the 2 crochet stitches from part one here.

Large Clusters Stitch

A thicker stitch to the similar Soft Clusters, but still fairly flat. This stitch creates a dense fabric with a beautiful and reversible texture. It would work wonderfully for baby blankets, scarves and cosy sweaters.

Pattern rep. is in units of 2 ch plus 4

Using 4mm crochet hook, ch 26 sts

Row 1: miss 3 ch, *1 cluster [(yrh, insert hook, draw up a loop, yrh, draw through 2 loops) 4 times in the same ch, yrh, draw through 4 loops, yrh, draw through 2 loops], 1 ch, miss 1 ch*, 1 cluster, 3 ch, turn

Row 2: *1 cluster in each ch sp of previous row, 1 ch*, 1 cluster in top of turning ch, 3 ch, turn

Rep from Row 2 then repeat until crochet measures the same as the width.

Bobble Stitch

A solid, three-dimensional pattern that uses lots of yarn, but is well worth it and creates a tactile and raised fabric. The bobbles can be used to create designs or spell out words, or to just add a bit of flare and fun to a project!

Pattern rep. is in units of 3 ch plus 1

Using 4mm crochet hook, ch 25 sts

Row 1: miss 1 ch, *1 dc in each ch*, 1 ch, turn

Row 2: *1 bobble [(yrh, insert hook, draw up a loop, yrh, draw through 2 loops) 5 times in same st, yrh, draw through 6 loops], 2 dc*, 1 bobble, 1 ch, turn

Rows 3 and 5: *1 dc in each st*, 1 ch, turn

Row 4: *2 dc, 1 bobble*, 1 dc, 1 ch, turn

Row 6: 1 dc, *1 bobble, 2 dc*, 1 ch, turn

Rep from Row 2 then repeat until crochet measures the same as the width.

Next time we’ll be showing you how to join all your squares together and to add the beautiful border! To share your photos you can visit our Knit Along and Crochet Along groups on Facebook.
