Mohair is a popular choice for knitters wishing to give homemade pieces a high-end finish.

Made from the hair of Angora goats, it has a wonderfully soft silk-like feel and is known for being durable and for having insulating qualities.

It’s thought that mohair has been used as a fabric in England since the 8th century and became part of the English language before 1570.

Mohair yarn is not to be confused with Angora wool which actually comes from rabbits.

Womens Oversized Jumper Knitting Pattern

Our Vintage Ladies' Wrap Knitting Pattern is so sumptuous when knitted up using mohair.

The design - first printed in the 6 June 1959 issue of Woman’s Weekly - will certainly keep you warm in style and can be worn for both formal and more relaxed occasions.

It’s an extra layer you’ll really grow to love during the colder months.

If you're anything like us, you'll often wake up in the mood to wear comfy clothes like a simple sweater and jeans.

And our Oversized Jumper Knitting Pattern proves that you don’t have to forgo luxury on such days. We suggest using a super-sized mohair yarn for this make.

Here at The Knitting Network HQ, we're also huge fans of retro fashion and love to knit up tops and accessories from bygone eras using mohair.

Vintage Short Sleeve Top Knitting Pattern

With its elegant boat neck and lace-look finish, the Vintage Short Sleeve Top Knitting Pattern is fairly easy to turn into something really wonderful.

Dress it up for a special event by teaming it with a statement necklace and a pair of black skinnies.

Our Vintage Women's Cowl Neck Top Knitting Pattern is another we can't resist. Choose a jewel-toned mohair shade to add a warm splash of colour to your winter wardrobe.

Alternatively, pick a pastel hue if you'd prefer to wear it in the summer.
