Grandmother's Footsteps Blanket CAL Part Five

The fifth and final instalment of our latest crochet along 'Grandmother's Footsteps' is here. This traditional granny square blanket is made up of simple granny squares in cream and bright colours. It is suitable for those with a bit more crochet experience. 

This part shows you how to crochet the border, to give the blanket a lovely neat finish!

First round: With right side facing, join Aran to ring at one corner triangle, 1ch and then 3dc in corner.

Then work 299dc along long edge to next corner, 3dc in corner.

Continue referring to the pattern, working 3dc in each corner.

Next round: Work slst along and into corner st, then 4ch.

Work 1ch, 1tr in next st.

Work 1ch, miss next st, 1tr in next st repeat to the corner st. 

Then work 1ch, 1tr, 1ch and 1tr in corner st. 

Repeat referring to the pattern. 

Next 2 rounds: Slst along and into corner chsp, work 4ch.

Work tr in same chsp.

Then work 1ch, 1tr in next tr to corner chsp.

Work 1ch, then work 1tr, 1ch and 1tr in corner chsp.

Repeat round referring to the pattern.

Repeat the last round again once more.

Next round: Work 1ch, then work 3dc in first chsp.

Work 1dc in next st to corner chsp.

Work 3dc in corner chsp.

Repeat referring to the pattern.

Repeat the round twice more.

Shell round: Slst along and into corner st, and work 3ch.

Then work 4tr in same st at base of 3ch.

Miss the next 2 sts, 1dc in next st.

Miss the next 2 sts, 5tr in next st, miss next 2 sts, 1dc in next st, repeat until to the last 2 sts, miss next 2 sts, sl st in top of beginning 3ch.

Fasten off and neaten ends.
