1. The Look: Twist and Ties

A simple twist in the fabric, wrap-over, or tie feature can add an understated fashion statement to a classic top or a simple cardigan. It’s just great that such a simple detail like this can create a great look that’s so current and yet is really easy to knit. Whatever your level of ability, this is a project for you – we have to admit we love the sound of that!

This super simple top is knitted flat and the pieces are twisted before sewing. It’s worked in easy stocking-stitch with a glitzy yarn that creates this special look that’s ideal for long summer evenings, but would look equally lovely made in a plain cotton for more casual dressing.

With an archive of over 100 years of patterns, the WW team have a wealth of a by-gone-era of patterns that they re work regularly in yarns that are available to us today. This pretty top from the 1940’s shows classic vintage at it’s best and is super sweet.

Our women's short kimono knitting pattern is a versatile Japanese-inspired cardigan with loose sleeves and a tie front. This version, based on a classic design, is knitted in one piece in moss stitch with garter-stitch edgings and creates a lovely effect that will add style to your wardrobe.

2. The Detail: Shoulders

Designers are still keen to draw attention to the shoulder area again this summer with frills and cold shoulder tops heavily featured in many collections once more; a newer addition to this key trend are cap sleeves with a button or tie feature. It’s a great feminine look and continues to be a firm fashion favourite with us all here at TKN - we all love to feel special in what we wear right?

The T Bag shape top is so easy to wear and with it’s cold shoulder feature, means our fabulous version is bang up to date for this summers fashion. We love the saffron shade it’s knitted in too! It’s certain to make you feel bright and summery even on the dullest of days.

If you love to crochet then you’ll be reaching for your crochet hooks to make this really cool super easy top. If you don’t or can’t crochet then you can head over to our blog to learn. The pattern has been especially designed for beginners, as you work two identical rectangles, so shouldn’t take you forever to make.

When packing for your holidays, it’s always handy if you can throw in the odd item that you can wear on more than one occasion and with this stunning tunic you can do just that. Its versatile shape and stitch makes it casual for the beach when worn over swimwear, but it's also gorgeous enough to team with evening separates for a night out.

With the gypsy off-the-shoulder top still a current trend favourite in fashion this summer, this lovely little knitted top first published by WW in 1978, proves this look can stand the test of time. It’s great teamed with jeans for day-wear and can be worn off-the-shoulder for the evening.

3. The Colour: Pink Hues

This summer the shops are a blaze with a colour palette that has possibly never been so diverse. Being so spoilt for choice we’ve simply highlighted our favourite combinations of pink hues from the hottest fuchsia to the softest dusky rose. We get that these won’t be everybody’s taste, but we have a great range of shades to choose from at TKN – enjoy!

Sometimes less really is more and this neat little short sleeve cardigan pattern offers you just that. It's a classic all-rounder, whether you choose to make it in summery vibrant fuchsia pink or a more subtle pastel shade, we’re sure it’ll be a pattern you pick up and knit again and again.

The retro look of colour blocking is commanding the interest on the fashion designer’s catwalks again this year. This little top isn’t too difficult to knit if you like this bright bold geometric look. This simple tee is knitted in stocking stitch working the intarsia method for the vertical colour changes. It's ideal for beginners who'd like a little bit of a challenge.

The timeless appeal of the classic cricket sweater makes it perfect for anytime of year. Knitted in a pretty palette of pink shades, it creates an ideal choice for this summers colour trend that you’ll be happy to wear for years to come.

You can never have too many classic cardigans in your wardrobe and this one is no exception and should keep all who crochet very happy – we aim to please!

4. The Yarn: Fine Sheer

The finest ply yarns make a wonderful addition to your summer dressing, they do however take a little longer to knit up. However, with their transitional use across all the seasons we think the time spent making them is worth the while. Layer up over a simple camisole or your favourite tee shirt to create timeless style.

This sleek stylish sweater is knitted in mohair with a textured lacy border at the hem and cuff edges. Teamed here with jeans and a simple vest for an easy casual style, it would look equally as good paired with a summery skirt or simply over a pretty dress.

Knitting on a circular needle seems to have taken-off big time recently. If you’ve never used circular knitting needles, you may not know how brilliant they are for a seamless finish. This pretty top is worked from the neck down and will require some experience to knit.

This wrap-over cardigan will make a wonderful addition to your summer dressing; wear it with a pretty dress for a special occasion or for a more relaxed time with easy separates. The pretty lace pattern adds to the sheer effect of the fine mohair yarn and the current trend for summer.

If you like the sheer fabric look and your skill level requires something a little easier, then this little cropped sleeve cardigan with a waterfall front edge should tick the box. It’s knitted in simple stocking stitch using a mohair yarn and creates this fashion trend perfectly!

5. The Stitch: Eyelets

We love the mesh fabric effect that an eyelet stitch creates, which is produced using the same basic knitting principles as lace. A hole or eyelet is made by taking the yarn round the needle to create an extra stitch, that is then knitted or purled on the following row. In crochet the technique creates a more holey fabric, arranging the stitches and chains in an order to create the mesh effect. Both methods offer an overall effect, which can be stunning as our pick of patterns from TKN show.

This easy sweatshirt-style top is a must-have classic. Crocheted in an all-over mesh pattern effect, makes a super useful item for casual weekends, when the weather can’t make up its mind.

Layer up over separates to rock this on-trend look; the all over mesh pattern for this dress showcases this trend perfectly.
