Charity of the Month - Barnardo's
By Vanessa 4 years ago

We’re delighted to be supporting Barnardo's as our charity of the month throughout November! During the month, you can round up your orders to the nearest £ at the checkout and all money raised will be donated to Barnardo's, a registered charity no. 216250 (England) & SC037605 (Scotland) and a company limited by guarantee (61625 England).

We’ll also be matching donations so whatever you donate, we’ll donate the same amount, therefore doubling the total amount raised for the charity.

Barnardo's is the UK's oldest and largest national children's charity. Every year, the charity supports over 350,000 children, young people and families, through over 1,000 vital services across the UK. Barnardo's helps children through the trauma of sexual abuse and exploitation, is there for young people in and leaving care, and supports families through domestic abuse, mental health problems, prison sentences, asylum seeking and much more.

Barnardo's aim is to provide the best outcome for every child, no matter who they are or what they have been through.

Helping vulnerable children during the pandemic:

COVID 19 has made life more difficult for the vulnerable children that Barnardo's helps, in more ways than could have ever been anticipated. As time goes on, more and more children will be identified as needing help, and the repercussions of the pandemic could last for years to come.

Through over 1,000 vital services across the UK, Barnardo's will continue to keep its promise to believe in every child. No matter who they are or what they have been through, Barnardo’s will help them not just to recover, but to thrive.

Knit a snowman for Crafty Kidsmas:

Barnardo's and The Knitting Network have teamed up with best-selling author and knitting designer, Sue Stratford to create two fantastic Kidsmas knitting patterns, that you can download to help raise money for vulnerable children this Christmas.

You’ll be able to purchase the yarn to knit your Kidsmas Snowman goodies here. Throughout November, you will also be able to round up your orders to the nearest pound to help support children at Barnardo’s.

The Kidsmas Snowman teddy bear pattern is a brilliant challenge for experienced knitters, whilst the Kidsmas Snowman bag charm is perfect for beginners, looking for an introduction to the wonderful world of knitting.

There’s a suggested donation of £2.50 to download the Crafty Kidsmas knitting patterns, which will help to make a life-changing difference to a vulnerable child. Each donation of £2.50 could help supply 12 healthy eating cookery sessions for young carers like Anton.

Last month's charity of the month:

Throughout October we helped to support Porchlight and raised £1,581.30 thanks to your checkout donations. Thank you so much to everyone who donated! We’ll also be matching your donations bringing the total raised for the charity to £3,162.60

Porchlight is a local charity to us here at The Knitting Network and are Kent’s largest charity for homeless and vulnerable people. They’re here for people who have nowhere to go and no-one to turn to. Some are living on the streets; others need support to prevent or resolve any issues that could put them at risk of homelessness. Porchlight strive for a fairer society where vulnerable people find stability, the most excluded are included, and where homelessness and poverty are things of the past. Read more here.
