Don't panic if you're new to crochet, as we teach you how to crochet this flower from start to finish in our very floral pictorial guide, below.

We asked our Facebook followers whether they'd prefer to see our exciting new CAL in strong or soft colours and the final tally revealed bright yarn as the winner, scoring 92 votes. Pastels received 49 votes.

Those of you who favoured a bright palette included Laura Nicholson.

'When I think of summer blooms I think of an explosion of mother natures gorgeous vibrant colours so brights for me,' she said.

Karen Wright agreed, commenting: 'I think, as its the summer hols and I'm feeling cheerful - brights.'

And with a remark that stated 'I like the brights.... nice and cheery', it's clear Suzanne Kizimchuk loves the idea of working with vivid colours.

Ellen Le Moignan and Jacki Moore both voted in favour of a muted palette.

'Pastels! I love both but after having done a few brights, something a bit more toned down would be lovely x,' quipped Ellen.

Jackie added: 'Pastels as i did my last in bright.'

But some of you didn't find the decision so black and white...or should we say pastel and bright?!

'I'd like to be greedy and ask for both!' said Karen Gower.

We bear all these comments in mind... (hint hint)

In those times when your job involves looking for beautiful images for colour inspiration you feel pretty darn lucky. Here are some of the ones that really got our creative juices flowing during the process.

We adored the combination of spicy orange and egg-yolk yellow offset with the pink in the floral photograph below. It reminds us of looking at a tropical sunset.

Blue flowers are rather rare in nature. Luckily for us they're not a rarity in yarn ranges.

And we couldn't stop ourselves from picking the most neon of greens after seeing this photo.
